Mind Body Medicine looks at the link between the mind (thoughts, emotions, beliefs and mental state) and the body’s symptoms.
This is important when dealing with a health issue as your mind influences how your body functions and feels.
For example a person who is feeling stressed and having stressful thoughts will more than likely have the physical symptoms of uneasy churning stomach, increased pulse rate, shallow breathing and so on.
A different example on how the mind and body are connected is; say someone just got their heart broken, their emotions of grief, sadness or sorrow will more than likely be accompanied with the physical symptoms of a stooped over posture with shoulders rolled inwards towards chest (almost like they are protecting their heart), sighing frequently, and chest tightness.
Our emotional state directly influences how our body behaves.
