Keeping balanced in today’s world is key for a happy and smooth functioning you!
Emotional and spiritual balance is just as important (if not more) as eating healthy delicious foods and making sure you move your body at least once a day.
The trick to keeping balanced on all levels – emotionally, spiritually and physically is to do something you absolutely love and quiet time. Quiet time helps your monkey chatterbox head to slow down allowing you to be more present and in your body. Choose whatever makes you feel the nicest inside.
The hardest part is finding the time to do it on a regular basis, but is essential that you do. Life was meant to be fun, it was meant to feel free and easy and it was defiantly meant to make you feel alive.
The more you make an effort to keep yourself in balance the easier it is gets and the health benefits (see below) that follow are nothing other than amazing!
How I keep balanced
To keep myself feeling healthy, balanced and grounded for my work and personal life, I enjoy spending time with my beautiful thoroughbred horse named Xaar.
He is adorable, extremely cheeky and is my best friend. I dedicate regular time to spend with Xaar and when I can’t see him due to time restraints I keep him close to my heart in my morning meditations, this way he is still part of my every day.
I just love being in nature, feeling connected to mother earth and experiencing true stillness, it’s the whole experience for me.
Xaar and I ride together, learn together and sometimes just hang out when times get tough.
A typical day goes something like this: Cuddles and carrots, a little bit of training like how to stand still while mummy gets on – he is an ex race horse so his natural instinct is to bolt when someone jumps on his back (think starting gates flying open), have lunch together – he does not like to share but loves to taste what I am having. Then I spend the afternoon brushing, washing, oiling his hooves making him look all spunky and sparkly clean, after which he goes and rolls in the dirt!!!
Think groundhog day and you wouldn’t be far off, I swear he thinks it’s a game but it’s actually really frustrating!
Afterwards I sit in his paddock and watch him graze with only love in my heart. Sometimes I do a meditation to soak up the moment but usually my mind is already quiet and peaceful.
Hanging with Xaar is something I need to soothe my soul, and enjoy the headspace to get away from the hustle and bustle of my own life.
Dedicating time to keep in balance and nurture the quiet aspect of ourselves rejuvenates us on so many levels.
Here are a few amazing health benefits:
- Calms the nervous system down
- Rebalances energies and keeps us centered and grounded
- Gives us an opportunity to re-connect to our truth
- Brings clarity and confidence
- Increases relaxation
- Helps digestion (good-bye bloating gas and fatigue)
- Increases immune function (hello more energy)
Horses and animals have an amazing ability to keep you in the present moment. They also bring love and enjoyment into our lives and keep you in a heart-centered space.
If you are not an animal lover don’t worry, there is many other ways to keep balanced, slow that chatterbox head down and enjoy all the health benefits listed above.
You can try yoga, pilates or tai chi, bushwalking in your favourite national park, leisurely spend a few hours cooking your favourite meal, reading a book with no interruptions, painting and being creative, meditation, treating yourself to a massage and so on.
A personal favourite of mine apart from spending time with Xaar is making a vision board.
It puts me in a state of relaxed happiness and excitement for my future.
Have a think about your favourite way to keep balanced and make a plan today.
